Program Highlight: Traver School Readiness Program

The community of Traver is a small unincorporated town of about 800 people located next to freeway 99 in the northern part of Tulare County. Traver School was established in 1884 and currently has 230 students enrolled in the single K-8 school district.

During the 2002-2003 school year, Traver School began its partnership with First 5 Tulare County, which brought our very own School Readiness Preschool Program to the Traver School campus. The partnership is entering its 16th year and it has never been stronger.

Our Traver School Readiness Program serves 3 and 4 year old children from the Traver community, as well as surrounding communities, Monday – Thursday half-days. Each year, we generally serve about 50 students total for both age groups.

Our Readiness Program focuses on two main goals. The first goal is for all our preschoolers to grow up physically and mentally healthy in all areas of their lives. We believe that if our students have access to quality healthcare (preventive, primary, and specialty) at a young age, this will serve as an important foundation in their future educational careers.

The second goal of the Traver Readiness program is to prepare each student with the ability to grow cognitively, social-emotionally, and physically in all areas. We believe a rigorous and nurturing preschool program will ensure that each and every student will be ready to be successful throughout their schooling and develop a love for learning.
