| | In Tulare County, not having health insurance has devastating impacts. Families delay preventive health care services and often wait until the child’s condition becomes serious before seeking treatment, resulting in short-term and sometimes long-term consequences for the child and family. This also results in much higher costs to our health care system and to the taxpayers of Tulare County.
In January of 2003, First 5 Tulare took a bold step in developing a creative strategy to meet the health care needs of Tulare County’s youngest and most vulnerable citizens. We allocated half of our annual funding— nearly $3 million—to ensure that all children have access to medical, dental, vision and mental health care.
Our health initiative also provides a safety net health insurance program for children who are not eligible for any other insurance programs. | |
